The Mark, Dolby Atmos Screening Room Debuts At The Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties, NY
Introducing The Hudson Valley's Newest Cultural Destination
WOW! On Wednesday, March 13th, 2024 I had the privilege to attend a private screening of Dune: Part 2 at the Hudson Valley’s Newest Cultural Destination, THE MARK!
Named in honor of and dedicated to Saugerties-based philanthropist and founder of Markertek, Mark Braunstein. The Mark is an intimate screening room for movies and performances featuring state-of-the-art audio designed by world-renowned architectural firm WSDG’s co-founder John Storyk.
The Mark is located upstairs in the Upstate Films Orpheum Theatre in Saugerties, NY. The theater has seating for 99 people and features Atmos sound—the latest visionary version of Dolby cinema audio, with 27 individually controlled speakers and a state-of-the-art live sound system. New cozy seats, great sightlines, and beautiful acoustics now make this one of the best theaters around.
The evening kicked off with Upstate Films co-Executive Director, Jason Silverman, speaking about Mark and the dedication. Two shorts were then presented previewing what we had to look forward to with Dolby Atmos sound. Following that we went right into the feature presentation, Dune: Part 2.
On a personal level, I had the opportunity to work directly with Mark at Markertek for many years, and to see him honored in this way was truly special. As far as the experience, as I said earlier, WOW!
The Mark featuring Dolby Atmos sound is an absolute game-changing movie experience. Dolby calls it an immersive sound experience and that might be an understatement. Dune: Part 2 was the perfect example of a movie that takes full advantage of this technology.
This theater brings a larger-than-life experience to movie viewing and it’s very fitting as Mark himself was a larger-than-life person who without a doubt left his "Mark" on the community and the many lives he touched, including mine.
The Official Grand Opening for The Mark is Friday, March 15, 2024. I highly recommend all check out this amazing venue that is dedicated to an even more amazing man.
